7th July, 2017. Most reds fans are optimistic of the signings we’ve made so far, and hopefully those coming soon. Also the direction the club is taking towards securing Champions League football. However go back 6 years to this day in 2011, and things may not have been seen quite in the same way. This is because 6 years ago today, Charlie Adam signed for Liverpool. Thankfully he left not long after, and it’s not known whether he actually still plays for Stoke, or works in a chippy near Blackpool pleasure beach. After an initial bid made to then Premier League side Blackpool, now languishing in Football League 1, was branded as ???disgraceful’ by manager Ian Holloway, Liverpool signed Adam for £6.75 million. Adam was known for his set piece brilliance, and did manage to get a set-piece assist in his full league debut in an enthralling 1-1 draw vs Sunderland. Soon after this, Adam netted his first Liverpool goal in a 3-1 victory vs bolton Wanderers. Sir Alex Ferguson once claimed “Adams corners are worth £10 million alone”, sadly it wasn’t corners that Adam was taking in the 2012 League cup final shoot-out, as Adam managed to send an absolute rocket, possibly part of a NASA project, well and truly into orbit. Adams debut campaign ended in lateral knee ligament damage, this rather sums up his time at Liverpool, a bit of a car crash. He subsequently signed for Stoke in August 2012 for around £4 million, seemingly things didn’t get much better there, as recently he accidentally managed to handle a corner kick, instead of kicking it into the box. Although not necessarily a Liverpool legend, considering where we are now, it can be taken lightly how comical it was that he played for the club.
