According to reports, Juventus have agreed terms with Emre Can on a free transfer in the summer. It’s well known that the Bianconeri fancy Liverpool’s number 23, and tried to sign the German in the summer.Because Can’s contract doesn’t expire until 30th June, he technically cannot speak to other club’s until December. Will Juve write an apology on there website if they have illegally contacted the German and found out?Anyway, with Emre seemingly out the door, where does this leave Liverpool? Financially, they’ve had their pants pulled down. Allowing a highly-rated, German international, who is only 23 years old, walk out the door on a free transfer is bad business. It’s pure speculation but the Reds could have probably commanded a minimum of £15 to £20 million for Can. As a £10 million signing, that’s profit they’ve missed out on, without including his wages. He’s also made himself a major part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans. Klopp has given Can a lot of playing time since taking over in October 2015, and although he splits opinions of supporters, his manager’s opinion of him is obvious.I’ll bet the management team would be disappointed to see Can leave the club. I’ll bet the board would be disappointed to see him go for nothing. Based on the Chelsea game, Liverpool are lacking in midfield – particularly one that can defend a la Javier Mascherano in his prime.Speaking of the little Argentine, there’s rumours he could be on his way back to Anfield. Maybe to replace Can?Emre isn’t an out-and-out defensive midfielder, but he has occupied that role at times for Klopp. There’s also the impending arrival of Naby Keita – a player Liverpool chased all summer and eventually captured his signature for a transfer due to happen next season.Again, Keita isn’t a defensive midfielder, but should offer his new side a lot of energy in midfield, which will aid the high pressing style of our manager.   If he has agreed to leave, should he be allowed to play for LFC again? Or should he be banished from the playing squad?   Let us know on Twitter, @theredmentv. Article by David Brindle
