Perhaps less commonly known as Lord of the manor of Frodsham, Djibril Cisse, who retired in 2015 to focus on his music career, has returned to the professional football scene for Swiss third division side: Yverdon Sport FC. Cisse joined Liverpool in 2004, after being the French League 1 top scorer (22 goals) with Auxerre. After leaving Liverpool in 2007, Cisse became a journeyman and appeared for no less than nine clubs. When including Auxerre, Liverpool and now Yverdon the total increases to 12 teams. The choice to return to football wasn’t necessarily a straightforward one for Mr Cisse, as he also has a clothing brand, Mr Lenoir, for whom he himself models the clothes. As stated earlier he has had a career with music, primarily as a disk jockey, however his first single ???Fat trumpet’ may not have been successful as Djibril first intended. Seemingly not dissuaded by recent rejection from his first club Auxerre, he settled for the slightly less prestigious third tier Swiss outfit. In Cisse’s own words (via google translate) it’s a ???great pleasure’ to be able to play for Yverdon. Yverdon Sports 172 twitter followers where understandably very excited by this signing. As for Yverdon this is a brilliant coup for a club of their stature.Cisse remains fond of the time he spent at Liverpool, as does he with the fans. Despite his freak leg break vs Aston Villa in October 2004 in which he broke both his Fibula and Tibia. Although the recovery time should have been anywhere from six – eighteen months for Cisse to return to fitness, he was substituted onto the pitch in the 75th minute of the 2005 Champions League final, and even converted a penalty in the shootout as Liverpool beat Milan to win a fifth European cup. Djibril made a total of 79 appearances and scored 24 goals for Liverpool before moving onto Marseille, on loan in the 06/ 07 season and then permanently for ???8 million.
