Jordan Henderson is set to make a return to Liverpool action tonight against Tranmere Rovers. It will be his first appearance since mid-February since the win over Tottenham, where Gini Winjaldum played a magnificent ball to Mane who put it past Hugo Loris.
Jordan has been able to play a full role in training sessions, “Having Hendo back on the training pitch is a nice thing.” Klopp said “Everyone who knows him knows how hard [it has been for him]??? It is hard for everybody if you cannot play, but if you know Hendo you know for him it is much harder than for others.”
Henderson played a key role in the team during the opening fixtures of the 2016/17 season in the engine room of that midfield three. However, Jordan Henderson’s foot issue reared its head again and it caused him to miss the back end of last season.
Henderson suffers from a condition called Plantar Fasciitis, which is incurable and causes him chronic heel ache. The former Sunderland man has had consultations from renowned surgeons and even the Royal Ballet about how to deal with the issue. It affects just as many dancers as it does sportsmen. Despite the expert help, nothing has seemed to work and Henderson has resigned himself to the fact it is down to him to manage the pain.
It did seem that Henderson had found a way to push through the pain barrier but the recent injury lay off has made sure that his doubters are right back on his heels. It is important to note that tonight is not about how he performs, but more about showing that this heel injury is firmly behind him. There is more pressure on Henderson to make sure he is fit and playing games due to the fact he is our captain. The captain needs to be on the pitch. Another season plagued by injuries and maybe we start to think about a different appointing a different captain.
Right now though Jordan Henderson is our captain and fully deservedly so. When he is fit and firing he is one of the most underrated midfield players in the premier league and he was missed last season so the news today is most certainly a welcome one. 45 mins for Jordan today will be great for him and for the club.
