Well another day and another Klopp press interview. As much as they are all similar, the few months we went without them I actually missed them. Its that little reminder that the week is coming to a close and our weekly fix of football is just around the corner. And have the added bonus of European fixtures back in our lives, for now.
OK, so the Watford game didn’t go as we all planned in our heads but its done now. The same can be said for the Hoffenheim game. I would have easily taken a 2-1 away victory before the game and to a certain extent I can see why people were a little frustrated with us conceding a goal. I don’t understand the absolute fume from a selected few who claim Trent is now shit because he made a mistake. He’s 18, he will learn. Lets look forward.
Back to the presser now.
The first question Klopp was asked was the fitness of Daniel Sturridge and Phil Coutinho. He was able to confirm that Sturridge was back in contention this weekend but unfortunately Coutinho is still injured.
Now first of all, it is great to have Sturridge back and available. I know he has his critics but we have already seen in a short space of time that we need as much depth and quality as possible going into this season. With the same XI having started both games you can’t help but think one or two maybe rested in order to complete our quest for Champions League football. In particular Bobby Firmino.
Now to the topic on everyone’s mind. Phil Coutinho. There are a few different camps on this one. You either want rid, sit on the fence, keep him or are just completely sick of hearing about it. If you are the latter I suggest that you leave this article and return to your porn. To be fair, thats what the internet is for.
Jurgen was questioned on Coutinho’s attitude to which he replied “I have nothing to say about attitude. He has a back injury. The medical department have no complaints.”
At first I thought nothing of this but after reading it a few times I questioned if Klopp has been giving him the silent treatment. Why say the medical department have had no complaints? When he could have just given his own view. They work together, he must have spoken to him? Maybe I have watched too many conspiracy theory documentaries.
I may of course be reading to much into the situation and he may have just been clarifying that he and the medical department have no complaints. Do you think he is injured? Or has he been dropped and asked to fake injury? Or is he faking it? Let me know in the comment section below. It’s a strange situation which has obviously been exacerbated by social media.
Staying with the Coutinho saga, the reds boss was asked about comments made by Pep Segura. You know the guy who contradicted him self in the same sentence by stating Barcelona are close on to Phil Coutinho ‘but can’t say anything.’
Klopp was bemused by these comments and confused to why they were made. As far as he is concerned nothing has changed.
Much like transfer news, as usual we have been linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry during the past few months and have succeeded in buying Mo Salah, Dom Solanke and Andrew Robertson.
Keeping up with the current them of Premier League managers, Klopp was reluctant to comment on transfers and dodged any bait put forward. He did however suggest that if the window was to shut today he would be happy with his current squad. Again, I am fully aware he won’t come out and name names or after the VVD debacle say anything remotely to do with transfers. And I live in hope that things are happening behind the scenes to get quality bodies through to the Melwood lean.
Would you be happy with the current squad? Given that meant Coutinho would still be there, along with Sakho. Although day by day I am being convinced that there is no return for Sakho and we are holding out a move until we have played Crystal Palace this weekend.
Whatever happens between now and the transfer window lets enjoy the footy and just not concede a Benteke goal on Saturday!
