It’s a happy day in the RedmenTV studios for a few reasons, firstly, Liverpool are going to be playing in their first pre-season game this evening, and it couldn’t be a nicer day for it. Chris Pajak has just arrived back from the shops with loads of food, and last but not least, it’s happened, no, no, no, not Van Dijk or Keita. The RedmenTV have finally got a blue tick on Twitter, and so, as a form of celebration I’ve got an exclusive interview with the two men who make it all happen, Paul and Chris, and I’m also going to be looking at the channel, and basically talking about how boss it is (subscribe now if you haven’t already???).First things first, The RedmenTV began back in 08′, coincidentally this was also the year Liverpool won Capital of Culture. Since then however, they’ve amassed 100.9k followers on Twitter (+ a blue tick), 246,609 likes on Facebook, and 170,309 subscribers on Youtube. The point is, RedmenTV has exploded, it gives fans the opportunity to hear the opinion of two Liverpool lads through and through, as well as interact with all the other fans, it’s a community.Anyway, lets get straight into the interviews. I asked Chris and Paul the same set of questions. When I asked how did it start? Paul told me “A group of friends sitting in a pub chatting about the reds, we’d grown up watching shows like Soccer AM and saw the opportunity to do it for an individual club”. And Chris went into more detail about how the show came about on Youtube originally. “Originally Paul and Aubrey had the idea, so we borrowed a camera and our friend (a director) filmed it and we sent it off to LFCTV. Initially they liked it however after a while they dropped their interest and so we eventually put it up on Youtube instead”. From this we can see that an idea the boys have had has flourished. I asked how they’ve adapted as the channel has grown, Paul said “Learning, it’s been a process of constantly trying things, making mistakes, learning and going again”. Chris told of how this has been a massive leap of faith “initially tough, because I was doing (RedmenTV) around my other job” Chris was an area manager for a restaurant chain before Redmen, and so had to wait for growth before making the leap to full time Redmen. “I went full time in 2014, it was in the same month of me moving house, leaving my job and having a child”. So although at first it was a tough call, it’s really worked out and only gone from strength to strength.Next up I asked for their views on the RedmenTV and how it’s grown. “Brilliant” said Paul, “Better than I could’ve imagined, the people we’ve reached”. This is something they’ve done brilliantly. The RedmenTV are known all around the world, they’ve bought so many different nationalities together, and I’ve seen this first hand in the subscriber group on Facebook. Chris said “It’s incredible how important it is for people” Which is very true, people are tuning in on the same days every week for their dose of Redmen. “It’s getting more tough though, we’re always trying to innovate rather then rest on our laurels” This has been seen recently with the introduction of the live shows, firstly the one at the end of the season and the upcoming one in Germany, which goes to show the size of the show, managing to sell up venues not just in England. The boys have gone from sitting in Paul’s flat on a couch that he lived in with his then girlfriend (now wife) to having a studio and office, as well as a growing number of interns and even employees. Tom was the first back in 2014. My final question to the lads was a simple one, I asked them to sum up how they felt about The RedmenTV in 3 words. Paul was straight on the money with “I’m absolutely buzzing”. Chris however listed War and peace, before settling on “It’s fucking amazing”. And that sums it up, the enthusiasm from everyone involved in the website, social media platforms, subscribers or even those that just tune in on Youtube, everyone has the same infectious enthusiasm. As far as the website is concerned, there’s still so much more to come. It’s boss, you’re boss, everyones boss. Congrats on the blue tick RMTV, and here’s to another successful season for the reds.
