Reports coming out early on Monday suggest that a £10 million bid for Sheyi Ojo from Newcastle United is in the works. Over the summer it has been suggested that Jurgen Klopp would prefer Ojo to move to a Championship club on loan for the season in order to secure as much first team action as possible for the 20 year old. Middlesbrough had looked to be the frontrunners in the race for Ojo but with Rafa Benitez offering Liverpool a fairly large sum for the youngster and a buyback clause being available, it would seem that St.James’s Park is now the more attractive proposition not only for the player who would get to remain in the Premier League, but also the club who are looking to cash in on the promising winger in the hope that if he comes good they can buy him back for a cut price deal in the future. Ojo has impressed in recent seasons, having a successful half season stint with Wolves before being recalled in January 2016 and making his Premier League Debut against Southampton two months later. Shortly after, he would make his first start in the league, bagging an assist for Daniel Sturridge in a 4-1 home win against Stoke City. Last season was marred by injury, with the pacy forward missing the first three months of the season with a back injury. However once he returned from injury he continued to impress in the Under-23’s squad. Other conflicting reports from the Newcastle Chronicle are claiming however that the Magpies do want Ojo, but only if it is a loan deal due to the Tyneside club looking to buy Jacob Murphy from Norwich, another winger valued at around £10 million. It seems that it is now a battle between Newcastle and Middlesbrough for Ojo and the winner may be the team who can guarantee the player more first team football.
