After last night’s frustrating draw in Moscow I think every Liverpool supporter will be asking the same question that I was, how on earth did we not win that game? With the Reds missing a hatful of chances, especially in the second half Klopp must have been wondering how we haven’t come away with all three points. Despite the frustration though I think there were some positive to come out of the game last night.
After I got over the disappointment of dropping another two Champion League points I came to the realisation that actually Liverpool played pretty well last night. Our movement both on and off the ball was superb and we were cutting open Spartak Moscow every time we went forward. The thing that really impressed me last night was the interplay between our front four, Firmino, Mane, Salah and Coutinho all started together for the first time, and like a lot of Liverpool supporters I was very excited to see how they would play together. To a certain extent they didn’t disappoint, they were brilliant last night up until it came to putting the ball into the net. The movement and pace we saw from them was quite scary and I think Liverpool fans can look for to seeing more of that in the future, hopefully with a better end product.
Another thing that impressed me was how strong our bench was, last season it was no secret that the Liverpool bench lacks any real quality. At times we were making substitutions out of hope rather than expecting them to change the game. However last night Klopp was able to bring on Sturridge and Wijanldum who are both able to have a positive impact on the game, in fact you could argue Sturridge should have had a hat-trick in the last 10 minutes alone.
I think we all need to put last night’s game down to just one of those crazy games where the ball just wouldn’t go in for us. Like I said earlier Liverpool played really well and I think it’s worthwhile bearing in mind that although it was a disappointing result’s it’s by far no means the end of the world. Liverpool can still qualify from the group and if we play like that and become a bit more clinical I see no reason why we cannot top the group.
