To begin with, more news on Naby Keita, and more specifically RB Leipzig chairman Oliver Mitzlaff, who has come out and said Keita will not be for transfer, despite Keita himself allegedly wanting to come to Liverpool. Sporting director Rangnick also said, when questioned “We will not sell a starter, even in the three-digit range”. However this could be simply an attempt, in order to ward Liverpool off, as there was a similar issue back when Ragnick was the manager of RB Salzburg, and Sadio Mané was a top interest of Southampton. We all know how that panned out.
Next on the agenda is 21 year old English winger Demarai Gray, who currently plies his trade with Leicester City, after a £3.5 million switch from Birmingham in January 2016. Recently Gray starred for the England U21s this summer during their World cup run in Poland, in which he scored 2 goals. However with Leicester last term, he only managed 9 league starts for the foxes, and 21 appearances from the bench. The main issue for Demarai Gray however, is that he wants an assurance of more first team game time. This leads to the links being made that Liverpool and Spurs are interested very much questionable, as surely Gray would not see more game time at either of these sides. Gray himself said it was “very tough” being restricted to a bit part role and so if he did decide to go to Liverpool there would be questions over his intentions as a player, considering it is highly unlikely the reds or Spurs can offer him more game time than he saw last season.
Sadio Mané, a name that brings excitement to all Liverpool fans, however a sweaty brow and possible brown pants for opposing fans. The good news for the reds is that mané is set to join back up with the rest of the lads in full pre-season training in around 10 days time, which although does mean he will miss out in the two early fixtures vs Tranmere Rovers and Wigan, although he will be back for the reds trips over to Asia and Germany. Most reds fans will be hoping he can recreate his form from last season as the Champions League looms large over us.
Finally, onto Liverpools forgotten man, a fantastic defender in my opinion, Mamadou Sakho. The reds defender was on loan to Palace last season, featuring in 8 games and helping them to stay in the Premier League, before picking up an injury. Palace have been interested in Sakho since the season ended, with Liverpool stating they expect £30 million if Sakho is to return to Palace, who have also undergone a managerial change over the summer, with Sam Allardyce leaving and Frank De Boer coming in to replace him. Although an alleged deal has been made and contract agreed between Sakho and Palace, Palace are also saying that a deal would be ???difficult’ to negotiate. It’s also rumoured that De Boer has his own replacement in mind, a defence Dutch duo of Joel Veltmen and right back Kenny Tete are believed to be De boer’s targets. However the club still wants to try and get Sakho. Only time will tell, however it seems there will be no return to the fold at Liverpool for sakho.
