It’s Monday 31st July and Chris is back again with today’s Daily News. We begin with some fantastic words from Jurgen Klopp in today’s press conference ahead of the Audi Cup in Germany. The boss did indeed reiterate that Philippe Coutinho is ???100% NOT for sale this summer’, which is the reassuring news every Reds fan has been dying to hear. These quotes were on the back of several days speculation claiming that Coutinho was edging closer to a move to Spain. Some were claiming he was desperate to leave Liverpool, and some today have been claiming that he is ???almost certain’ to move to the Nou Camp this summer. Chris knows as well as you and I do that that speculation is BULLSHIT, and is just the Spanish press trying to stir the situation, and unsettle the player. In other BULLSHIT news today, it’s being reported that Southampton are ???optimistic’ that Virgil Van Dijk will accept that he will not be sold in ???crunch talks’ with Mauricio Pellegrino this week. These ???showdown’ talks between the player and manager we hope is more likely to lead to the re-opening of negotiations between Liverpool and Southampton, as the player increasingly pushes for a move away from St. Mary’s. This is likely to continue to rumble on all summer, right until the window shuts. Chris has a funny feeling that there’s still a big chance Van Dijk will be a Liverpool player by the time September rolls around. Whether we get Van Dijk or not, the whole fanbase appears to be in agreement that Liverpool need a centre-back this summer. Our 4 active centre-backs, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klaven and Joe Gomez, are simply not enough for us to compete in 4 competitions this season. In news within the clubs concerning players we already have, Adam Lallana has commented on how he has been impressed with Daniel Sturridge’s fitness and sharpness in this pre-season. “He has come back from the summer looking absolutely brilliant, so fit. He is going to be a massive player for us this season. I can feel it. You couldn’t put a price on him. He is looking really sharp, and to have him firing on all cylinders would be like having two new signings if we can keep him on the pitch and get him scoring goals. He is a world class player.” Interesting comments as we’re not sure how one player can be like TWO new signings…but encouraging comments from Adam all the same. Perhaps the biggest news today is that Liverpool fans have voted in favour of rail seating sections in the Premier League by an overwhelming majority. Of over 17,000 votes, 88% of votes were in favour of bringing rail seating in. Of course, it’s a very sensitive subject, and all this survey has resulted in is the deciding of the stance that Spirit of Shankley will take in the conversations going forward on the matter. There are lots of steps and conversations yet to happen before we get any near to the process of actually implementing rail seating in the Premier League. Of course, it’s a very good thing that we, as a club, and as a fanbase, are at the centre of the discussions at the moment, because we know better than anyone else what the potential consequences are when there is mis-management of this kind of thing at football matches. It’s incredibly important that any forthcoming discussions are handled with great care and with a sensitive approach towards those who have been affected by, and are still affected by the events of the Hillsborough disaster.
