With the transfer market slowly coming to an end, the Reds are yet to add a starting CDM by trade into the mix. Transfer rumours have been flying in from all corners of the globe after getting priced out by Chelsea for Moises Caicedo and missing out on Romeo Lavia to the same club.
During this week’s Transfer Insight, Dan met with Chief Sports Reporter for SportBild, Tobi Altschäffl. The two are conversing about the possibility of signing French defender Benjamin Pavard following consistent links to the World Cup winner.
The defender who is also deployed as a Right Back, scored four times and assisted once in 30 matches for Bayern Munich last season. There were whispers about the potential move around this time last year; and with only a year left on his current contract, could Pavard be the right fit for the squad this year?

Tobi said: “In [Benjamin]’s mind, he is 100% sure he wants to leave. It’s his desire to move to Manchester United…but it depends on Harry Maguire.
“But on the other hand, if the United deal were to be off, I think the desire of Pavard to leave is even bigger than the desire to go to United. There is no way [Pavard] wants to stay at Bayern.
“United bid €20 million but Bayern Munich want €45 million.”

Redmen Reacts
Because of the Maguire deal falling through, the World Cup champion could be on his way to Merseyside and albeit The Reds shouldn’t be waiting for our arch-rivals to sign or not sign a player, on this occasion it’s primarily down to Liverpool’s focus being elsewhere in the market, therefore a late opportunity to land Pavard could still be a viable option.
It’s been quoted that Jurgen quite likes the defender who was described as ‘underrated’ by Thomas Tuchel recently. While Bayern have made Pavard move to the RB role, he much rather prefers to play at centre-back and a move to Liverpool will allow him that freedom. The one major obstacle in the way could be the price that Bayern set for the player. With only one year left on his contract, the administration might find the price tag to be a bit steep, only time will tell.
