Liverpool fans wanted to avoid the mistakes of last season when a slow start cost them the Premier League title. The Reds were out of form for the first half of the 2021/22 campaign but found their feet at the turn of the year. Following a late and dramatic fightback, Jurgen Klopp’s men were left as best of the rest.

Readers would be forgiven for having a touch of deja vu as this season has followed a similar path. It took the team much longer than expected to get going, and by the time they managed to piece together a winning streak, the league crown was already out of their grasp. But did last season’s struggles create a strong squad with unrelenting self-belief? Regulars at Anfield hope so and will find out in the coming weeks.

A title push and crack at toppling current leaders Arsenal looks like a bridge far for Liverpool this term, heaping pressure on the players and Klopp to secure a top-four finish. Missing out on participation in next season’s UEFA Champions League would have dangerous consequences for the team and its budget for next term. Will Liverpool break into the prize places? Have your say on the best sportsbooks online.

April will be the most critical month of the season for everyone connected to the Anfield club, and there will be no settling-in period. The games come quickly this spring, and the Premier League fixture list hands Liverpool three big games on the bounce. Keep reading as we preview the Reds’ make-or-break fixtures.

Man City v Liverpool 01.04.2023

A meeting of last season’s champions and runners-up is a mouth-watering clash. Man City still hopes to topple Arsenal and win the league for a third EPL trophy in three seasons. Liverpool hopes for a win and the three points needed to strengthen their claims on a top-four finish. Reds fans won’t be too unhappy to see their team put a dent in the title hopes of their opponents, either.

Man City and Liverpool have met three times already this season, meaning followers of the stats have plenty to work with when making predictions. Liverpool won the Community Shield 3-1 before claiming a narrow 1-0 win at Anfield in the Premier League. Man City won the most recent game, claiming a 3-2 EFL Cup victory in December.

Chelsea v Liverpool 04.04.2023

No sooner will the dust settle on one big match for Liverpool, and the Reds are thrown into another exciting contest. Three days after visiting the Etihad, Liverpool is off to London, where they’ll face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. By their lofty standards, the Blues have been poor this season but remain a danger.

The teams have met once already in the EPL this season, with that match ending in a goalless draw. If you like to follow the stats, you’ll be interested to learn each of the last three games involving these sides have ended goalless. Could we see another stalemate with a nervy 90 minutes expected in both camps? Both Liverpool and Chelsea need the points, but this game will be settled by a special moment.

Liverpool v Arsenal 09.04.2023

Little over a week after playing Man City at the Etihad and then traveling to London to face Chelsea, Liverpool returns to Anfield. Fans hoping for a straightforward win on the team’s homecoming will be shocked to see Liverpool against a major rival for the third game on the bounce. The fixture list has been rather unkind to Klopp and co.

Arsenal is going great guns this season and is the most likely team to win the league at this late stage. But there’s still plenty of football to be played, and the Gunners can’t cash in their chips yet. Liverpool hasn’t hosted Arsenal in over a year, with the last meeting ending 0-0. Since then, they’ve played three times at the Emirates. Liverpool scored back-to-back 2-0 wins, but Arsenal snuck a 3-2 victory earlier this season.
