Trent Alexander-Arnold gave many onlookers food for thought with a man-on-the-match performance from midfield for England. The 24-year-old scored a fantastic goal and was instrumental in a 4-0 victory over Malta. Many pundits are now suggesting that Trent makes a permanent switch from right-back, including Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, who spoke to Redmen TV earlier this month. (could link to that here?)
One man who many would like to see in the Liverpool midfield next season is Nice’s Khéphren Thuram. The 22-year-old is believed to be one of the Reds’ top targets as they look to refresh in the middle of the park.
On the latest episode of our Journo Insight show, we asked respected LFC journalist Neil Jones for an update on the Thuram links.
Liverpool ‘Ready’ To Make Gabri Veiga Move | Liverpool Transfer News Update
Neil said:
“Liverpool are obviously not really saying much about anyone at the moment. Whether that’s because nothing is happening, or because they’re just in this impasse in terms of nothing has been agreed.
“We’re old enough and wise enough now with Liverpool – when they say that they’re in for someone, that tends to mean it’s almost done. At the moment that isn’t the case.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt that Nice would sell this summer. I don’t think there’s any doubt that the player would leave this summer. I think the question is: what’s the fee and do Liverpool think he’s worth it?
“I’ve got a fancy that he will be someone who Liverpool push for, or are pushing for. As of yet, there’s no huge update in that regard.
“We’re in a situation at the moment where we’re all a little bit waiting for the next step, which I guess would be a fee or a negotiation over a fee. I can’t see a situation where the fee is completely out of Liverpool’s range on this one.
“I think it’s just a case of do they really, really want to go for it, and if they do, I think they’ll get him.”
Redmen Reacts
There has been some panic and impatience online amongst some fans as developments in the Thuram – who was hailed as ‘very dangerous’ by Aaron Ramsay – story have slowed down. This is understandable given that Jürgen Klopp has expressed a desire to get most of his transfer business completed ahead of the squad reconvening on July 8th. There are still over two-and-a-half weeks before that date, so it is far too early to be seriously questioning Liverpool’s summer window. Thuram will likely need some time off if his France side goes deep into the summer’s under-21 Euros. The Reds’ transfer committee are known for announcing deals with little notice, with the signings of Fabinho and Cody Gakpo being two such examples. There is still a possibility that another target may become available after a few high-profile transfers have been completed.
