Liverpool are somewhat blessed with frontmen finding the back of the net at present, as Alexander Isak took his tally to seven for the season in midweek, whilst Will Wright made it 13 in just 12 matches after his second consecutive away hat-trick in the UEFA Youth League out in Istanbul.

Beneath those two, Finn Inglethorpe’s impressive return of 10 goals and five assists in just nine appearances makes the teenager a frightening proposition for academy defences right now, as does the prospect of an ever-returning-to-sharpness Jayden Danns.

Meanwhile, Liverpool also have another frontman who’s found his shooting boots in recent weeks out on loan at Port Vale, as Keyrol Figueroa has been hitting the back of the net with regularity for club and country.

A first club senior strike was soon followed by a first for Honduras, a winner against Jamaica nonetheless, with the 20-year-old enjoying a run of three goals in four outings for the League Two side.

Dan made the short trip down the M6 into the land of the pottery to check in on the powerful academy forward as the Valiants faced Scunthorpe United in the FA Cup First Round, a competition Keyrol’s dad, Maynor, won in 2013 as Wigan Athletic shocked Manchester City.

Partnered upfront alongside experienced Cuban international Onel Hernandez, who himself has amassed over 200 Championship appearances and 26 in the Premier League across spells at Norwich City, Birmingham and Middlesbrough, Figueroa certainly had a high-quality foil to operate alongside.

It was those two combining in the opening moments as Figueroa set his partner clear on goal, only for Hernandez to poke narrowly wide; however, the on-loan Liverpool man didn’t have to wait long for his chance, as on the nine-minute mark he slid in to open the scoring from a low driven cross.

Five minutes later it was so nearly two for the Honduran as this time Hernandez attempted to turn provider only for Figueroa’s well-struck shot to be saved brilliantly by the Scunthorpe goalkeeper.

Despite dominating much of the remainder of the half, it remained 1-0 at the break, with Figueroa’s close-range strike the difference between the two sides.

The second half saw an early, spirited Scunthorpe flurry as the visitors threatened to draw level on numerous occasions before Port Vale responded and turned the next five-minute spell into a basketball match, before Figueroa found strike partner Hernandez, who showed his quality and composure to double the hosts’ advantage.

Now firmly in control of proceedings, manager Jon Brady replaced Figueroa after an hour with a goal and an assist to his name, and it was party time at Vale Park when Max Watters extended the lead even further just two minutes later.

Albeit seemingly too little too late, there was a consolation for the travelling fans to celebrate late on as former Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood headed home at the near post.

With almost the next attack, Scunthorpe had even more hope as the deficit was cut to just one by Declan Howe, whose goal was immediately followed by the announcement of six minutes added time, further encouragement for the away support.

That encouragement was soon dampened as the home side put the game beyond doubt with a fourth goal, and despite the late drama, it was Port Vale who advanced to the FA Cup Second Round.
