Liverpool quickly return to action in the Champions League against Rangers, presenting the ideal opportunity to move past a disappointing 3-3 draw with Brighton on Saturday. It’s not quite clear what’s going on with the Reds defensively at the moment, but it’s something that must be fixed as soon as possible.
No new injuries sustained at the weekend means Jurgen Klopp will have a strong selection to choose from. While there should be some rotation, it’s important that momentum is considered as well. Failing to secure anything other than three points in this one would be damaging for confidence.
Here’s how we should line up:
An unchanged back five sees Alisson start behind Kostas Tsimikas, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Of course, Joe Gomez could be handed minutes here, but I think it’s more important that the defence can play themselves into form.
Jordan Henderson starts in the six in a position what might be best for him going forward. The captain demonstrated his passing ability from deep areas against Brighton, and he seems to be sharper than Fabinho right now.
In the advanced areas, the emphasis is on complete control of the game. Thiago Alcantara and Arthur start – allowing Liverpool to edge themselves into the lead before taking advantage of the opposition who will be forced to be more adventurous.
Diogo Jota starts on the left flank for Luis Diaz, supporting Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott. Mohamed Salah from the bench should be the perfect change when leading the game.
Score prediction: Liverpool 3 – 0 Rangers
