As Liverpool prepare for life after two iconic members of Jurgen Klopp’s era in the shape of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, names aplenty have been emanating from the ether as possible replacements.

One of the latest contenders to replace Fabinho is Crystal Palace enforcer Cheick Doucoure, the Mali ace enjoyed an impressive first campaign in the Premier League and has seemingly caught the eye of the Reds – albeit the £70million reported price tag could change that rapidly.

Whilst some of the options are juxtaposed to what the Brazilian had to offer for the upcoming season and therefore how we should set about seeking a replacement, one thing is clear – reinforcements are needed.

During the latest Journo Insight show with Neil Jones, Dan asked about the Mali international.

Neil said:

“I think he’s definitely a name Liverpool are looking at, he’s in the mix.

“He’d be an interesting signing as there’ll be questions about him on the ball – I think off the ball he would add a lot.

“The conversations I had with people were that he’d be really good at stopping transitions and stopping that problem that was there last season with Liverpool being too easy to play through.

“Fabinho at his best was brilliant at that – he’s of that ilk.”

Albeit the mooted £70m asking price is undoubtedly an eye-watering one for a player with only one season of Premier League action under his belt, Klopp needs a solution to the Fabinho-shaped hole in the squad and if Doucoure is it, then he’s it.

However, despite being told that Liverpool have indeed made contact with the player’s agent regarding the possibility of a switch, personally, I believe there are better options available – for a not-too-dissimilar price and if we are in the market for the ideal solution – we would be best served looking elsewhere.

That said, if Doucoure does become a Red then his abilities would be a welcome addition to the ranks and the youngster who shares similar stylistic traits to Juventus ace Manuel Locatelli could go on to become a pivotal feature for Liverpool.
