Liverpool gets off to winning ways in the Champions League after a one-nil away win at Ajax.
Solid Defensive Performance
Huge win for Liverpool tonight in Amsterdam and all credit goes to the back four. I thought Andy Robertson was brilliant tonight, I think we’ve all come to terms with the fact that he just doesn’t run out of energy and he was unfortunate not to get himself on the scoresheet either towards the end there.
Joe Gomez played great too. Taking up Virgil Van Dijk’s position as left-sided center-back wasn’t going to be easy but I thought he had a very mature performance. You could see that he was up for the challenge and although there were a few communication errors with the goalkeeper I think he’ll be happy with his performance tonight.
Fabinho was excellent at center-back tonight also. We know he’s more than capable of filling in at the back when needed and he will be called upon a lot more now so nice that he’s got another 90 minutes under his belt in that role. That goal line clearance too! He’s just boss isn’t he?
Trent Alexander-Arnold good also. He didn’t get too many opportunities going forward to swing any decent crosses in but no complaints about his performance tonight.
Although a few worrying moments from Adrian in goal, he did pull off some decent saves that kept us in the game. He’s got big shoes to fill in Alisson but he’s a decent goalkeeper and deserves credit for keeping a clean sheet against a good Ajax side.

I was a bit surprised to see all of the front three go off at the same time and on 60 minutes too but their replacements played just as well. Takumi Minamino can play the false 9 role just as good as Roberto Firmino at times and he looked lively when he came on tonight.
Diogo Jota offered us a lot, especially on the counter-attack, and got the best of the Ajax defence on numerous occasions. I thought his decision making was a bit off but all in all a good substitute performance.
It looked set in stone for Xherdan Shaqiri to depart Liverpool in this transfer window but tonight proves that he will still play a key role for us this season as a decent enough replacement on that right hand side.
Sheffield United Next
Back in Premier League action on Saturday night as we welcome Sheffield United at home. Important that we take all three points at the weekend to get us back to winning ways in the league.
