Well there we have it. Liverpool lose out on the Maccies plate once again on pens.I can laugh and joke about it all I like but if I was to be serious for a second, that first half performance wasn’t good enough. I defended the lads for it v Salzburg as they’d had intensified training but we just looked all over the shop for the first half an hour or so.The subs made a huge difference. Taki and Naby injected some life and pace into the game and took risks going forward and were arguably our best players.It’s our third game leading into this season so I wouldn’t take much of that performance to heart although the back end of last season does come into play. So if you’re concerned or frustrated. You’ve every right to be.Hard lines in the end for Brewster who came and then missed a pen. Gutted for the lad. He will learn, it will only make him stronger. Just let me know yours in the comments below. Alisson – 6Sound. Was beaten by a worldie from Aubameyang and was kept relatively busy in the first half. Not much to do in the second and he didn’t get near a single pen in the shootout. Ah well. Just a big 50p anyway.Williams – 5Listen, he’s a kid. He’s got to learn. Such a tough task trying to fill in for Trent and no helped by being up against Aubameyang, one of the best forwards in world football for the past five years. Possibly longer. Didn’t really get going and was clearly targeted by Arsenal. It’s frustrating to watch, but as I said. He’s a kid learning his trade.Ah well. Just a big 50p anyway.Here’s some perspective.van Dijk – 6Had his chanced to score. Arsenal looked weak from aerial threats, which is something we looked to exploit. Other than that he was his usual calm, composed self. Threaded a few long balls over the top to Sadio and Robbo but nothing came of it. Ah well. Just a big 50p anyway.Gomez – 6Still looks a bit shy of confidence and the form he showed for much of last season. Had a few moments in which covered the full backs and cut out the danger. Surprisingly effective at RB towards the end. Just doesn’t have the delivery of Trent. But who does? Ah well. Just a big 50p anyway.Robbo – 6Whipped some delicious balls only for no one to get on the end of it. Picked up some dangerous positions and could have scored a header similar to the one v Villa at the end. Ah well. Just a big 50p anyway.Fabinho – 6Probably the best in the midfield before the subs. Broke down counter attacks and put out fires. Except the one where they scored which wasn’t down to him. Went to CB for a bit and was relatively sound. Something we might see more of. Ah well. Just a big 50p anyway.Shock horror! A 17 year old with 3 PL starts under his belt can’t slot straight into the first XI of the PL Champions, with no discernible drop in class.

Gini – 5He’s had better games, that’s putting it mildly. Ineffective for large parts of that game and our midfield was overrun countless times. Can’t think of anything he did to be honest. Just a big 50p anyway.Milner – 6Love him motivating the lads before the game but in truth, it didn’t really work. Not his best performance, he tried to cover every blade of grass and had an early chance with a header but that was about it. Besides getting booked. Just a big 50p anyway.Mané – 7I’ve missed watching this lad playing football you know. He’s just so unpredictable which must be a nightmare for defenders. The only one of our front three who looked like they could make something happen, a theme of last season. Had two clear cut chances he could of scored but wasn’t to be. Ah well. Just a big 50p anyway.Bobby – 5Never really got going until the second half. Struggled to pick up any space or time on the ball until the game became a bit more open after the hour mark. After that point he grew in confidence, placed a few neat threaded passed. Then was subbed off. Just a big 50p anyway.Salah – 5.5Gets an extra .5 for his role in the Taki goal. Just didn’t get involved besides that. I don’t need to make excuses for him, nor do I need to slate him. We all know how good this lad it. Don’t worry about it. Just a big 50p anyway.
SubsTakiii LADD – 7Words cannot express how happy I am for Taki. He has shown so much improvement in pre season and at the back end of last season. That goal will have done his confidence the world of good, can’t wait to see what this season brings for him. Just a big 50p anyway.
NABY LAD – 7Why oh why wasn’t he on from the start?! Been our best player since the restart and has looked equally impressive in the two pre season games. He gets forward, he takes risks and he brings others into play whilst taking opponents out of their position. HAS to start v Leeds for me. Just a big 50p anyway.Jones – N/AWasn’t on that long but such a good pen. Love the confidence of the lad to then big up Alisson after. Shame it never worked. Just a big 50p anyway.Brewster – N/AHave to feel for the lad, you really do. So much promise, which there still is by the way, for him to not get a touch in the game and then to miss a pen.
