Aston Villa V Liverpool | Things We Learned

Liverpool come from 1 nil down to win 2-1 away at Villa Park!

Well, that was hard.

Fair play to Aston Villa for defending so well for 85 minutes because they did not make it easy for Liverpool in today’s game but you can always count on one of our lads to pull it out the bag and Sadio Mane stole the show at the end.

I think we can all agree that our first-half performance was not our best so far this season, we always play that high line for free kicks like that but today Trezeguet was able to stay on side and give Villa the lead. We pretty much dominated from then on I felt but Villa managed to keep it at 1-0 going into the break.

We come out second half and dominate even more, so many chances in the second half and we definitely deserved a penalty from Oxlade-Chamberlains shot but obviously VAR wasn’t our friend today with Bobby Firmino being offside with his armpit. I was impressed with the substitutes that Klopp made, Origi always offers you something different upfront always, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been playing brilliantly these past few games so of course he was always going to offer you something in midfield and then of course Naby Keita coming on changes things simply because he has never lost a Premier League game for Liverpool!

My Man Mane

The best player so far this season comes to the rescue in the dying minutes for us!

What a ball he put in for Andy Robertson at the back post, credit to Robbo too for following it in and getting in front of the defender but we were knocking on the door for a while so thank god someone finally let us in.

Then we thought Trent was going to bag the winner with a free-kick on his 100th appearance but I think he’ll take the assist and three points instead after finding Mane at the front post with a corner. I feel like our corners have been lacking recently and I complain about us never getting it past the first man but I’m glad he went to the front post today.

Champions League Next

Group stage match against Genk up next for Liverpool at home on Tuesday night. Be interesting to see what team he picks, would like to see Oxlade-Chamberlain play in midfield and maybe Keita? Fabinho definitely comes back in the side because we missed him a lot today and maybe a change in defence? We’ll find out Tuesday I suppose.
