Empty. That’s how I feel.Do I waste more energy being angry? What is the point? It can’t be healthy.A disjointed, subdued and defensively weak first half from Liverpool. And that’s being generous. I understand we need to make changes and we can’t have it all. So while I’m frustrated, I also have some sympathy, I think. It’s all a bit raw at the moment. In fact, If I was angry, I’m not sure where to direct it.We have a kid at RB learning his trade, Nat Phillips who is unexperienced at this level and Fabinho, a DM, making up 3 of our back 4. Was always going to be touch and go. We had chances. We had a goal ruled out. We had another injury. We conceded a late penalty, which at best, was soft.All this on the back of a defeat to Atalanta in a shit show of a year for everyone, no fans in stadiums and Peter fucking Walton changing his mind to whatever his mate say.This isn’t the Liverpool of the past two years, intense football and injuries are taking their toll. Alisson – 7Been practicing that CB role hasn’t he? The amount of times he came off his line and pretty far, nullify Brighton has to be applauded. Not only that, he made it look easy. Calm as always on the ball. He will be annoyed to have conceded a late goal there.N. Williams – 5Wild into challenge which he then missed and tried to make up for led to a penalty. Ventured forward and lost the ball which led to another Brighton chance as he left a big gap. Let’s not throw the kid under the bus. He’s fucking 19. He will make mistakes. He’s learning. Ideally it wouldn’t be in this situation. We are where we are. Hooked at HT.Phillips – 8Grew into the game for me. Communication was a huge issue in the first half and Brighton exploited the back line time and time again. But Phillips got better, proper old school defender. I like that.Fabinho – 7One or two iffy moments but that’s nit picking. The good of Fabinho was surpassed the bad. Unlucky not to have an assist to his name after teeing up Salah in the early moments of the game.Robertson – 7Tough one for Robbo today. Hardly got forward as much as we like to see, made an important clearance in the second but then gave away a pen with a wild kick. Whether it is actually a pen or not will be debated for a while. It won’t be long before football is a non contact sport.Gini – 6.5Shattered isn’t he? Clear to see him and Milner are goosed. 3 games in a week, are you surprised. Almost as if Klopp has been banging on about it for weeks. With the injuries we have, we didn’t have much of a choice. Taki – 5Might be a harsh score for you, might be generous for others. Looked lost for most of that game. Not sure where he was supposed to be or what his role was, like he was making up the numbers. Needs to be strong in tackles, gamble more in 50/50s and generally be a bit more physical and agressive. Improved slightly in the second half when he got on the ball.Milner – 6.5CM and RB again today for Milner, which as much as its becoming a regular thing, you have to admire his attitude. Felt much better with him at RB and he got forward a bit more which led us to creating more and putting pressure on Brighton. Until he got injured.Jota– 8Just doesn’t want to stop scoring this lad does he!? Another well taken goal and for me, our most consistent bright spark throughout the whole game. Wonderful close control, superb ability to shift the ball and an eye for goal. He really is a joy to watch.Salah – 7Scored one. Offside. Half volley. Wide. And fucking fuming when he came off. He has to be managed. To be fair to him, it was a good finish that for the offside one. Should have cut his toe nails and he would have been fine. Hopefully makes him hungry for Tuesday.Firmino – 7Mate, if that Salah goal would have stood we would have be eulogising about that assist for a few days. But it didn’t so I have to move on. Much more encouraging performance from Bobby. Not perfect. But much better.
SubsHendo – 9The game changed as soon as he came on. There was a drive, an intensity and purpose to our game. He helped protect the backline whilst opening up the game for Taki.Sadio – 6.5Had a goal disallowed and that was about it from him today.
