The Reds opened the scoring thanks to a brilliant run down the right side from Conor Bradley, who laid it off for Elliott to tap home. Despite Brighton grabbing a deserved equaliser, a stunning strike from Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool in the lead in the 45+1 minute of the first half. In the second half, a shot saved by Alisson was followed in by Mitoma on the half volley, just 4 minutes shy of the 90, super sub Jack Hinshelwood scores the winner for the Seagulls.
