Liverpool beat Burnley by three goals to nil at Turf Moor to go 4th!

Great Win

A solid win this evening and a very important win too. We knew these last few games were going to be tough and the squad knew that too and they’ve just taken each game as it came and grinded out the results.

The game started relatively well with us trying to start quickly, Burnley kind of sussed out what we wanted to do and managed to pin us back a little bit and cause us a few issues which is a credit to them but thankfully Roberto Firmino was able to open the scoring with a nicely worked goal to settle the nerves before the break.

Burnley came out all guns blazing in the second half and put us under a bit of pressure to begin with but big Nat Phillips was able to get his head on yet another cross and make it 2-0 to Liverpool and let us all breathe a sigh of relief once again. We seemed to control the game a little bit more after that even though Burnley still had a fair few chances to make something happen but we stayed strong defensively and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was able to come off the bench and kill the game off with a great goal. Buzzing for him to get his goal today, it hasn’t been his season at all and he definitely could have done a lot better when called upon. I’m not sure what the future holds for him but I’m hoping he stays at Liverpool and gets a season he deserves.

I thought Thiago was fantastic again, really come into his own in the last few weeks and just ran the midfield at times which is what we have wanted to see from him. I thought Sadio Mane had his best game in a Liverpool shirt for a while, he didn;t get a goal to show for it but he just looked a lot better and a bit sharper. Hoping he bags himself a goal on Sunday against Crystal Palace to end the season nicely.

Big Nat!

What a game Nat Phillips had this evening! I think Jamie Carragher summed it up perfectly when he said that if a double-decker bus entered the box Phillips would just head it away. His stats for this game are great too, 9 clearances, 8 out of 13 aerial duels won, 3 tackles, 2 blocks, and obviously, a boss goal.

He has just been a really key figure at centre-back for us this season and with the absentees that we have had in that position, he hasn’t let the occasions make him nervous and just took everything in his stride.

Crystal Palace Up Next

A massive game up next on Sunday, the final one of the season, and if we perform as well as we did in the last three matches then there is no reason why we can’t come away with the three points again.
