Liverpool are in serious danger of ending what has been a campaign to forget for the most part on a high as an upturn in results and performances have seen the Reds close the gap on the top four.

Despite the improved form, it remains unlikely that Jurgen Klopp’s side will be competing in the Champions League next season and regardless of this, a major summer overhaul remains imperative on Merseyside.

Whilst the likes of Curtis Jones, Stefan Bajcetic and the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold as a utility midfielder do provide Klopp with additional options in the centre of the park moving forwards, there are expected to be at least two additions to that department ahead of the 2023/34 term.

Recently a report from Miguel Delaney claimed that Liverpool were keen on Nice starlet Khephren Thuram and we asked GOAL’s Neil Jones about the links in the latest Journo Insight show…

Neil said: “Liverpool would want a bit more of a sure thing. Khephren Thuram is clearly a player of huge potential, he’s playing in a good side in the French league, played for France. He’s obviously got huge potential, it’s whether they think that potential is nailed on.

“Is he someone that they know exactly what they’ll get from him if they put him in this team – there’s enough doubt there? That would be the question, can he go straight into the team and immediately handle it, or does he become a player with huge potential, maybe not, maybe he does.

“The price, the age, the profile, the type of player he is, the potential that he’s got makes him someone who is definitely on a list that Liverpool would be looking at.”

Aged just 22, Thuram is a prodigious talent who has already earned one-cap for the France national side and has amassed 138 senior appearances in Ligue 1 across spells with AS Monaco and current club Nice.

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, the Frenchman – who is under contract until 2025 – possesses impressive attributes in all departments and would be a superb addition to the Anfield ranks at the right price.

However, Neil’s concerns over Klopp wanting plug-and-play Premier League options are valid given the desire for the Reds to return to competing at the very top table immediately, thus reducing the time for allowing players to settle in.
