Liverpool have made a strong start to the season despite the controversial defeat last time out in the Premier League in that VAR-marred encounter with Tottenham Hotspur.
Following on from a disappointing campaign last term, Jurgen Klopp’s side or ‘Liverpool 2.0’ as it has been dubbed, currently sit top of their Europa League group with two wins from two and are within two points of the summit domestically.
Whilst the dysfunctional midfield dominated much of the fall for the struggles of 2022/23, the summer exit of Roberto Firmino followed that of Divock Origi, Sadio Mane and Takumi Minamino – leading to a complete overhaul of the attacking options at Anfield.

Unlike the midfield department, Liverpool acted upon the attacking transformation incrementally and the captures of Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez – along with the evergreen Mohamed Salah and academy prospect Ben Doak – have given the frontline a whole new look.
Emile Heskey was speaking to Redmen TV via BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League betting & odds about the embarrassment of riches at Klopp’s disposal and was asked whether it was the best crop during Klopp’s time on Merseyside.
Emile said: “I would say it’s probably the best crop of talent we’ve had at that level because everyone is at a high level. You know who you’re starting line is, then it kind of drops away but these are more or less at the same level.
“They give you all different things. Gakpo gives you something different to Nunez. Nunez gives you something different to Salah. Diaz, Jota can play in the middle, Jota can out wide and give you different things in both.
“It’s kind of horses for courses, it’s probably a bit of a headache but it’s a good headache to have. If you need someone to unlock a defence you’ve got someone if you need someone to hold the ball up it would be different to Jota, if you need someone to unlock the defence you’ve got Salah, Jota, Diaz and if you need someone to run in behind like Nunez does fantastic, you’ve got someone like that.
“You’ve got so many different options and it’s probably the best we’ve had when they’re all quite close together.”

Albeit no trio may reach the heights of Mane, Firmino and Salah, the forward line certainly has a formidable look to it and the wealth of options and as pointed out by Emile, different types of options, mean that Klopp has an answer for almost any defence in the top flight.
With a long season ahead and four competitions to be won, Liverpool fans can be optimistic that the firepower at least is in place to go deep into the campaign.
