Liverpool face one of the biggest transfer windows in the Premier League as Jurgen Klopp attempts to build a side fit to challenge once again.
The Reds will be competing in the Europa League in 2023/24 and with James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and of course, Roberto Firmino now all former Anfield favourites, there needs to be a host of new faces arriving in L4.
Whilst the midfield problems are plentiful, there have been question marks over the defensive situation following on from a switch in system and we asked Jamie Carragher for his thoughts on the future…

Jamie said:
“I look at the defence and I think Joel Matip now has got a year to go. If you got £10million, whatever the price may be, it’s probably right to move on.
“I do think we need a left-sided defender, a left-footed centre-back. A lot of teams have them, we don’t.
“A left-sided player would add something. Rather than getting a left-back because I don’t think we will, if we are going to continue with this formation now, (it should be) buying someone in that area, a centre-back who can do the full-back role. I definitely think a left-sided centre-back who can do that left-back job.”
Redmen Reacts
Albeit the change of system hasn’t necessarily suited Andy Robertson in recent weeks, the Scot has continued to perform impressively in a role that doesn’t necessarily suit his attributes perfectly.
Signing a left-footed central defender with the capability of playing as a full-back would be the ideal solution for the Reds moving forwards and could free up the options at Klopp’s disposal.
In terms of options, the heavily linked Josko Gvardiol fits the bill, as do the likes of Pau Torres, Presnel Kimpembe and Alessandro Bastoni.
