Whilst many of Liverpool’s stars fell short of their incredibly high standards at times last season, one man remained a constant, Alisson Becker.
In truth, ever since his arrival from AS Roma in 2018, the now 31-year-old has been outstanding for The Reds and helped Jurgen Klopp’s side lift the Premier League, Champions League and multiple other trophies.
Still performing at the very highest level, former Liverpool and England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland told us what he had witnessed in the Brazilian at the AXA Training Centre.
What on Earth are Liverpool Thinking??? | The Deep Dive
Chris said: “He is awesome, in the simplest way. I get asked about him all the time obviously.
“I’ve been down there, watched him train, and my word, I come away gobsmacked. I know we see it in games but you train the way you play, you play the way you train and I just couldn’t believe what I was watching.
“People say ‘Why, well what makes him stand out?’ Well, he makes the easy things look easy and the hard things look easy. And that’s the biggest compliment I can pay him. He’s just no fuss. [It’s] massive the amount of saves he makes, the contribution he makes, his presence. We’re very, very lucky to have him.”
‘Alisson Is The Best In The Business’ – Former Liverpool Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland
Perhaps it’s no surprise to hear that in our opinion the very best goalkeeper in world football has the ability to astound in training and furthermore, works hard to master his craft.
However, getting first-hand accounts of watching how he works is a fascinating insight and makes it all the more impressive when we are watching Alisson do his brilliant thing, knowing the work that has gone into it.
Ultimately we are indeed very fortunate to have the Brazilian stopper at Anfield and fingers crossed he remains our ‘Holy Goalie’ for many years to come.
