Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Fluminense midfielder André for months now and even made contact with the newly crowned Copa Libertadores champions during the summer.
Despite the apparent major interest from Anfield, reports last week claimed that The Reds may not actively pursue the 22-year-old Brazil international in the upcoming January transfer window.
Albeit victory over Brentford leaves Jurgen Klopp’s side just one point behind Manchester City, there is little doubt that an additional specialist six would further bolster the squad – particularly with Stefan Bajcetic still struggling with injury and likewise Thiago, who is likely to be on his way out of Merseyside at the end of the season.
Andre ‘Wants’ Liverpool Transfer – Latest On Fluminense Midfielder
We spoke to Brazilian journalist Emmanuel Luiz to get the latest on the links to André.
Emmanuel said: “The most important thing right now is André wants Liverpool but Fulham, my friend Bruno Andrade here in Brazil was saying and I’ve confirmed with the club that André will play for the club that makes the best offer to Fluminense.
“He wants Liverpool and Liverpool wants to pay like €30million. But what Fulham did is say they will pay the release clause and give add-ons. So Fluminense said okay that’s good for us.
“Andre wants Liverpool but he’s going to talk to Fluminense. Andre is a world-class player right now and we are talking here in Brazil right now that he’s going to be the starter for the national team.
“So Liverpool just need to improve the offer a little bit. I think it would be stupid if Liverpool didn’t because Fluminense waited, they are going to do what Andre wants to do.
“Now, Manchester United have also sent a guy to Fluminense and they are now interested and could bid.”
How Do Liverpool Take Their IMPERIOUS Home Form on the Road?
Whilst it remains to be seen whether Liverpool do indeed intend to enter the market for reinforcements mid-season it would be a bizarre turn of events to seemingly spend time pursuing André only to move away when a deal is there to be done.
The combative ace has so far made 55 appearances so far this term for Fluminense, a sure sign that he certainly possesses the durability to bolster Klopp’s midfield options.
Therefore, albeit both Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister have impressed in the number six role, there is a need for a long-term option in the Anfield ranks and at the mooted price, André certainly looks to be an ideal candidate.
