Fulham vs Liverpool | Things We Learned

Well, what a relief, ay?

Liverpool have squeezed past Fulham at Craven Cottage after a performance I can only describe as a bit lazy. We took the lead in the first half and seemed in total control, but at the same time we were far too sloppy for long periods of the game, which was optimised by the error by Alisson/Virgil that lead to the Fulham equaliser.

James Milner put us back ahead from the penalty spot and we went on to win the game, but we’ve got away with one today. Here are some things we learned.

Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy…

We don’t need to go on about it too much I suppose. It’s a well-known cliche that the best teams can play poorly and still win. However, we’d have been punished by a better side today. Maybe it was a bit of a hangover from Munich in the week, particularly in the second half, but the passing and sharpness seemed so off. Trent Alexander-Arnold in particular seemed off-peak. As did Bobby Firmino. As did Fabinho, who was booked. All-in-all, we’ve played much better this season, there’s no hiding it. But it’s job done.

Van Dijk and Alisson are human after all!

It happens to the best of us lads. We know how amazing you both are, it’s fine. We all still love you. Just go for a coffee or something and work on the communication a little bit. You’ll be sound. At the end of the day, it didn’t cost us.

Milner. Mr Reliable as always.

Saw a lot of shouts for Salah to take that penalty, but there was only one man for me. He’s the coolest man we have under pressure and I never doubted his ability to tuck that crucial penalty away, just like Steven Gerrard did at Craven Cottage 5 years ago.

Top of the league with 7 to go

With no league game for City this weekend, we’ve done our job and got points on the board. 7 games to go. 21 points to still play for. I think the international break has actually come at a half-decent time now. It’ll give a lot of the players something else to focus on and allow them to take a bit of a break from things and be in different surroundings. Then, when they return, they’ll re-focus themselves and battle for every point still to play for. We’re in for an incredibly stressful 6 weeks or so, folks.
