Liverpool appear to be edging closer to a third major summer capture in the shape of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia and it’s coming at the ideal time as captain Jordan Henderson confirms his Anfield exit.

Having kept a close eye on the Belgian for some time now, it seems as though The Reds are finally willing to make the 19-year-old part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad and have started making bids to the Saints in order to make the move a reality.

To get a stronger sense of what Lavia could offer, Dan spoke to The Athletic journalist Jacob Tanswell for some Expert Insight

When asked about whether the Belgian starlet would be physically ready to play for Liverpool in four competitions, Jacob said:

“I’m sure Klopp would want to test him to his limits as well – something he’s probably not had at Southampton.

“But, in terms of technical quality and tactical understanding, he’s more than ready to go right into that Liverpool midfield.”

Whilst the capture of Lavia would be a brilliant one, with Fabinho likely to head out the door behind Henderson, it’s imperative that Liverpool find a ready-to-go option as a defensive midfielder also.

The Belgian will undoubtedly have a significant role to play should this transfer now go ahead as planned, however, as a frontline option in all four competitions, that is a monumental ask and one that would place too much responsibility on young shoulders.

Instead, the signing of a more experienced operator to allow Lavia to act as an understudy would be a wise approach.
