Regarding The Hillsborough Trial VerdictFirst and foremost let me begin by offering my condolences to the families of the 96, to the survivors, and to anyone who has had their lives impacted and forever changed by the Hillsborough disaster. My family was lucky enough to return from the disaster whole, many were not. There is a cloud of anger, grief and betrayal that has hung over this city for 30 years. We felt that with the verdicts of the Hillsborough inquest and subsequent legal action, which finally, unequivocally exonerated those Liverpool fans present on the day of ANY wrong-doing in the deaths of their fellow fans, that finally, with the truth out there, the quest for justice could begin, and the families of the dead could find some form of peace. I speak for myself, but also for everyone here at The Redmen TV, when I say that I am appalled at the verdict delivered on Thursday finding David Duckenfield not guilty of manslaughter. The people at Hillsborough, real people just like you and me, who died for the unspeakable crime of simply going to watch a game of football, were judged to have been unlawfully killed as a result of the actions of the South Yorkshire Police, and the ADMITTED failings of the match commander on the day Mr Duckenfield. He ADMITTED opening the gate that caused the crush, he admitted to LYING in his claims that it was Liverpool fans who had broken down this gate. This lie lead to Liverpool fans being blamed for the deaths. It is a stigma that hangs around. It is a lie that some still believe true to this day. That no-one will be held accountable is disgusting. We live in a blame culture. Where the quest for accountability on even the most trivial of matters fills our timelines on a daily basis. This is not some celebrity scandal. This is the real lives of hundreds of grieving families. It is a man in a position of power hiding behind a lie, and getting away with it. It is a catastrophic failure of justice.Though it should go without saying, we stand in solidarity with the families and the survivors now and forever, and pray that they have the strength for however they choose to proceed. The 96 will never be forgotten.Paul
