Written by: James McHale @jamesmchale2607 Last summer saw the Nabil Fekir saga drag on and whilst we know he is no longer considered to be a target, you should definitely expect to see his name continually thrown around as a possible Liverpool signing – just remember that Liverpool pulled out for a reason and their stance will not have changed come the summer. Liverpool need some attacking reinforcements and although some of these players may not be ‘galactico’ level, they would be very smart additions and wouldn’t cost a fortune either. Playmaker Julian Brandt has been one of Bayer Leverkusen’s most underrated players this season with Havertz usually getting all the media attention because of his impressive goal tally this season, but Brandt’s emergence as a central midfielder has allowed the German side to fight for European qualification despite their modest squad. Per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga this term Brandt has created on average 3.97 chances, far more than Havertz’ still impressive 1.36 – this is the creative spark that Liverpool’s midfield desperately needs. Considering Brandt has spent much of his time this season in the midfield, his return of 4 goals and 10 assists is even more impressive, even more so when you see that Leverkusen have been inconsistent and are currently sitting in 7th place in the Bundesliga.Leverkusen will be reluctant to sell, especially given Kai Havertz is all but sold to Bayern Munich, but BILD have reported that a £20m release clause comes into effect this summer and Liverpool would be wise to grab the youngster for around half his estimated value. Another option would be James Maddison; the young Englishman was only recently snapped by Leicester City for around £20m from Norwich but he has slotted into Premier League life seamlessly. He would be the ideal replacement for the ageing Adam Lallana and I can see him slotting into our midfield with ease, occupying the more advanced central role. The 22-year-old is flourishing in his first season in the top flight with 7 goals and 6 assists in 33 appearances and if he can improve his consistency, he will surely be in and around Gareth Southgate’s English side very soon. Brendan Rodgers will be reluctant to sell to his old club but with the amount of talent not currently able to break into our starting side, a deal could definitely be reached.

Winger Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser may not be the name on the lips of Liverpool fans right now but he should be, the Scottish winger is having an incredible season and has already bagged 7 goals and 12 assists in the league. Finding himself used almost exclusively on the left-hand side of Bournemouth’s 442 formation, Fraser has been a menace with his small stature and explosive pace allowing him to run in behind the opposition full-back and cause real damage. Fraser’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season and because of that I’d expect him to be on the move for around £15m this summer, though Arsenal’s apparent interest may drive that price up a little. A younger alternative, who almost certainly has a higher ceiling than Fraser, is PSV’s Steven Bergwijn who has already been linked to a move to the Premier League with Liverpool and Manchester United reportedly tracking the explosive winger. The Dutch international is equally capable on either wing and although he is a left-winger by trade, he is incredible on either side. In the Eredivisie this season Bergwijn has 13 goals and 12 assists, a return even more incredible when you remember that he only turned 21 in October. He wouldn’t come cheap with the winger’s value being around £25m but an offer of around £35m would likely be enough to tempt PSV into selling.  Striker The forward that almost all Liverpool fans want signed this summer is Leipzig’s Timo Werner and rightly so, the German international is capable of playing of playing anywhere along the front and his 14 goals and 5 assists in 27 Bundesliga show that, like Firmino, there is more to his game than just goals. The forward is an intelligent striker who regularly drops deep to bring his teammates into play but also often finds himself amongst the goals too thanks to his clinical finishing and impressive movement. Liverpool and Bayern Munich are the frontrunners in the race to sign the German and because his contract is running down, he could be available for around £40m this summer. Everton target Rafael Leao has been linked with a move to the Premier League after a good first season at Lille, the 19-year-old striker has 8 goals and 2 assists in 22 Ligue 1 appearances so far. The Portuguese striker isn’t yet capped at senior level but after such a good season he will certainly be in Fernando Santos’ plans very soon. Valued at around £10m, Leao could be on the move of Lille receive an offer around the £20m mark and despite Everton being the only side linked by the media so far, it goes without saying that he would almost certainly prefer a move to the red side of Merseyside should an offer come in. Article by James McHale @jamesmchale2607
