A 5-2 victory in the first leg of the semi-final against Roma has put the Reds on the cusp of another Champions League Final but how have they fared at this stage of the competition in previous years?1964/64:The first time the club reached this stage was back in 1964/65 season, they faced Inter Milan at home first winning 3-1 but lost 3-0 away meaning the final score was 4-3 to Inter.1976/77:The second time Liverpool reached the semi-final stage was 1976/77 season. The Reds faced FC Zurich winning 3-1 away in the first leg and 3-0 at home in the second leg. The Reds went on to face Borussia Monchengladback in the final winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Terry McDermott, Tommy Smith and Phil Neal.1977/78:The Reds faced Borussia Monchengladback for the second successive season but this time in the semi-final. Liverpool came out on top again over the two legs winning 1-2 away and 3-0 at home. The final was against Club Brugge at Wembley with Kenny Dalglish netting the only goal of the game.1980/81:Liverpool overcame German giants Bayern Munich to head into another European final. Away goals were the key factor over these two matches with the first leg at home ending 0-0 and the away leg in Germany ending 1-1 meaning the Reds went through on away goals. Liverpool went on to face Real Madrid in the final with Alan Kennedy scoring the winner that gave Liverpool their third European Cup in five years.1983/84:Joe Fagan led Liverpool to their fourth European Cup. The Reds faced Dinamo Bucharest in the semi-finals beating them 1-0 at home and 2-1 away. The Reds faced this seasons semi-final opponents Roma in the final with Kennedy scoring the decisive spot kick in the shootout, Bruce Grobbelaar’s spaghetti legs also played a part in the triumph.1984/85:Liverpool reached yet another semi-final, this time facing Panathinaikos who they beat 4-0 at home and 1-0 away. The then went on to face Juventus in the final with the Italians coming out on top. However, the occasion is still remembered for they Heysel disaster where 39 fans lost their lives and hundreds more were injured.2004/05:Quite a big jump since the last time the Reds were in a European semi-final. Liverpool faced rivals Chelsea in what is described as a controversial semi-final. Luis Garcia ???ghost goal’ is still talk of the town but this goal sent Liverpool onto the final where they faced AC Milan and pulled of an unbelievable comeback to lift our fifth European Cup.2006/07:It was Chelsea who again stood in the way of Liverpool in their search for their sixth European Cup. However, the Reds came out on top again after a 1-1 draw lead to penalties with Liverpool winning 4-1. It was AC Milan again which meant they were out for revenge, and they got it beating us 2-1.2007/08:It was Chelsea for the third in the semi-final and this time they got the better of us. Didier Drogba scored twice to send them into their first-ever Champions League final, they got beat by Man Utd.This year it is Italian side Roma and with a 5-2 lead we are so close to reaching another final and hopefully come 10pm tonight I won’t have to cancel my flights or my hotel that I have already booked in Kiev.
