Our very own Paul Machin spoke to Goal’s Neil Jones about the Dutch star on our Journo Insight Extra show to find out if he’d heard anything about Danjuma, and it turns out that the Villarreal ace isn’t someone who Jones has been told that The Reds are looking to sign imminently.
He said:
“He’s an interesting player and I think he’ll be one to keep an eye on, how he develops there, but he moved to Villarreal a month ago, it’s a bit much to be suggesting that Liverpool will be zooming in for him in January.
He’ll certainly be spending this season with Villarreal but it would be more Liverpool to buy him from a Villarreal-type club than it would from a Bournemouth, straight from the Championship and straight into Liverpool’s first team.
We’ll keep an eye on it but I haven’t heard that Liverpool are right in for Arnaut Danjuma, he’s just one, like a lot of names, that we’ll just keep tabs on.”
Redmen Reacts
It seems ludicrous to think that Liverpool would make a move for Danjuma in January, after all, he’ll have been at Villarreal for just a few months by that point. However, if the 24-year-old continues his current form right through the season, then it stands to reason that The Reds could consider a move for him in the summer.
Liverpool’s squad still looks a bit short in terms of attacking wide players so that should be an area that Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen, and like Neil said, The Reds will have more of an idea of Danjuma’s qualities if he shines in La Liga, a serious step up in level from the Championship.
Villarreal paid around £21million to take the Dutch star from Bournemouth though, so if Liverpool do want to sign him next summer, he’ll certainly cost The Reds a lot more than that, as the La Liga side will rightly want to make a big profit on a player if they are to sell him after just one year.
