We’re nearly at the time of year when the content updates of transfer news start up again, as football fans across Europe watch on, hoping to see their clubs do some business.
There are several players being linked with a move to Liverpool when the transfer window opens and we caught up with Goal’s Neil Jones to discuss some of the players being linked with a move to Anfield.
One player linked with such a move is Leeds United’s Raphinha. The Brazilian winger has been one of the stand outs in what has been a difficult second season in the Premier League for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
On the latest episode of our Journo Insight Show, we asked Neil whether we should expect to see Raphinha in red any time soon.
Neil said:
“Liverpool are aware of him and were very interested when he joined Leeds, in terms of ‘let’s see what he does in the Premier League’. He’s furthered his reputation playing in a team that is unique, being clearly a decisive player, capable of scoring, assisting. I don’t think he’ll leave in January and I think they would be mad to sell him. It would almost be an admission of ‘we’re going down’ if they sell him. Bayern Munich are linked. I wouldn’t be at all amazed if there was weight in that, but I think Liverpool will be looking. If Leeds went down, I think he would be someone who would be right in the mix.”
Redmen Reacts
The Brazilian has impressed for Leeds United cutting in from the right-hand side onto his left foot. He would serve as a good rotation option for Mo Salah, who thankfully so far in his Liverpool career has not suffered a bad injury. As Neil says, it is unlikely that Leeds will want to lose one of their better players half way through the season, so do not expect to see Raphinha slotting into the side while Salah and Mane are at the AFCON. A summer move is far more likely, especially if Leeds suffer relegation to the Championship.
