With a pre-season trip to Germany on the horizon, Liverpool have been rocked by the shock news that club captain Jordan Henderson could be set to head to join Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia.
The 33-year-old midfielder is reportedly ‘considering’ a lucrative switch to Al-Ettifaq and it appears there are legs in the possibility of Jurgen Klopp losing an influential leader on the eve of a new campaign.
Dan spoke to Liverpool correspondent for the Liverpool ECHO, Paul Gorst, for an impromptu Transfer Insight to get his take on the speculation.
Could Jordan Henderson Leave Liverpool? – Paul Gorst on Saudi Arabia Links
Paul said:
“There’s been no official offer to Liverpool. No official proposal from any club in Saudi Arabia.
“What I do find interesting is that there doesn’t seem to be a leading club at the moment. You know, hell-bent on bringing Henderson to Saudi Arabia.
“It very much seems to be vague interest from that part of the world. I wonder if there is perhaps something going on behind the scenes where his agency are angling for this, that or the other.
“I can’t say that with too much confidence but we had this similar situation two years ago when Henderson was the one glaring omission from a list of new contracts.”

Redmen Reacts
Well, this has very much come as a huge and in many senses, wholly unwelcome surprise.
Albeit the experienced England man is unlikely to play a leading role in Liverpool’s rebuilt midfield, losing such an important member of the squad so close to the action commencing would undoubtedly be a shock to Klopp’s plans.
Whilst it remains to be seen exactly how this pans out with crucial talks set to be held on Merseyside, the Reds will want to get their own house in order regardless of the outcome, whether that be in the shape of new signings as a replacement, or indeed proceeding with the captain at the forefront of a huge season.
