Another week goes by in Liverpool’s ongoing pursuit of Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram and the Frenchman continues to remain firmly on the agenda.

During this week’s Transfer Insight with Dan Clubbe, he is joined once again by France-based football journalist and Get French Football News writer, Luke Entwistle, to get the latest from the Riviera as talks between the two clubs draw to a standstill during the U21 Euros.

Dan and Luke talk about what might be going on behind the scenes…

BOBBY FIRMINO: BEST IN THE WORLD 

Luke said:

“Feels as though Nice are looking to potentially stoke up a bit of interest. The roadblock seems to be the Euro U21 Championships.

“[Nice] are trying to maximize their profit from such a talented player. I think [Nice] expected more interest from other clubs, that’s why they’re trying to bump up the price. Although [personal terms] aren’t completely agreed, it’s not far off either.

“I’d expect Nice to show a bit of resolve but ultimately cave into the right offer.”

Redmen Reacts

With the wholly affordable price tag currently set on Thuram, Nice are tempted to be stubborn with negotiations due to them wanting the most because of the uncertainty surrounding their budget going forward.

With 141 senior appearances already to his name across spells with Nice and AS Monaco, the 6’4 bulwark has adequate first-team experience under his belt and is exactly the type of gegenpressing midfielder that could improve massively under Klopp’s system and also make an instant impact on what was a broken Reds’ midfield last season. 

Described last week as a ‘very important’ part of the national team setup by France U21 coach Sylvain Ripoll, the 22-year-old is definitely one Liverpool need to push hard to get over the line in the coming days and weeks…
