Liverpool look set to be without a key member of what has made them so successful in recent seasons in the not-so-distant future, a sporting director.
Following on from the job done by Michael Edwards, the task facing Julian Ward was always likely to be a tough one as the former understudy became the main man at the heart of making key decisions that would have a direct impact on the future of the Reds.
Earlier this season, Ward decided he would be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign and as such, Liverpool are in need of a new man to fill the void.
This week a report from The Athletic claimed that the Anfield club were considering a move for Eintracht Frankfurt chief Markus Krosche.
On the latest episode of our Expert Insight Show, we asked Sport1 journalist Christopher Michel for his take on the Mount rumours.
“If Liverpool knocks on the door it could be a once-in-a-lifetime chance. There are some clubs in Europe and I think Liverpool with all its history, with Anfield with Premier League – the most exciting league in the world, I don’t know what happens if Liverpool really knocks hard on Markus Krosche’s door, we will see what happens. I think if Liverpool really calls Markus Krosche, he will hear what they offer and he will think about it.
“I don’t know if he hears at his heart that Frankfurt is perfect for me or if he hears or ‘my gosh, 42 years and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go to Liverpool and build a new team’ – maybe with Jurgen Klopp”
Redmen Reacts
With such a big rebuild required at Liverpool this summer getting the right people in key backroom positions is imperative, particularly when it comes to those who have such an influence on recruitment.
Krosche’s record in Germany with both Leipzig and Frankfurt speaks for itself and the Reds would be wise to seriously consider the former Werder Bremen and Paderborn midfielder as a viable candidate.
