There’s been plenty of talk about Mohamed Salah and his contract situation at Liverpool over the last few days and it’s easy to see why.
Firstly, it’s an international break and there’s not much in terms of club football to discuss, but secondly, Salah has been in such good form that his name is on the lips of fans and pundits across the globe.
Reports in recent days have suggested that Salah is looking for a similar wage to Kevin De Bruyne, with some suggestions being made that Liverpool are somewhat reluctant to meet that figure.
On the latest episode of our Journo Insight Extra show, we asked Goal’s Neil Jones to let us know what he’s heard, and what he thinks, about Salah’s contract situation and he gave an answer that should be music to the ears of Liverpool fans.
“I can see why Mo Salah’s people believe A) he should be the highest paid player at Liverpool and B) be the highest paid player in the Premier League, or close to it. “
“What is clear and has been clear for ages, he’s going to be the highest paid player in Liverpool’s history by some distance. He’s going to be the highest paid player at Liverpool currently by some distance. I think it’s just a case of finding the figure that satisfies everything.”
“I won’t veer from my opinion, Liverpool will get this contact done at some point, I’m pretty certain of that, it’s just a case of what the figure is and how it’s sort of constructed.”
Redmen Reacts
Whilst Neil’s comment is only his opinion, that opinion comes from a well informed place given the sources he has, not only at Liverpool but all across the football landscape, so hearing such a well-conected man say such a statement on the record will have Reds fans across the globe feeling overjoyed.
Given they have seen players like Gini Wijnaldum and Emre Can leave Anfield on free transfers in recent years, it’s understandable why there’s so many Liverpool fans nervous about Salah’s contract, with him being less than two years away from being able to walk away from the club for free.
However, like Neil, we too think that Salah will sign an extension, one that makes him Liverpool’s highest paid player in history and in truth, he deserves to be given that distinction given how amazing he’s been for The Reds from the day he arrived at the club.
