Liverpool now look certain to make Alexis Mac Allister their first summer capture as the Brighton and Argentina midfielder goes through the final stages of his switch from the south coast.

As ever at Redmen TV we’ve been busy bringing you all the insight you need on the soon-to-be Red and this week Dan spoke to Brighton fan and Premier League accredited journalist Charlie Haffenden to get the take from the Seagulls as well as Alejandro Casar for an Argentinian perspective.

Despite wishing Mac Allister well in his onward journey from the AMEX, Charlie was left a little miffed by the newly reported fee, now believed to be just £35million according to Fabrizio Romano.

“I Thought He Was Messi!” Argentinian Expert on Alexis Mac Allister

Charlie said:

“I’ll definitely feel hard done by and it’s a shame because it will be closer to the £40-45million mark if not less.

“It’s devastating. I was really hoping that it would be more than £75-80million, something around that region, maybe even more because he’s got the years on his contract still and the option of a further year – a club option.

“So you would think that they’d get more but there must be something about the exit clause in there. It’s such a confusing one.

“That is an absolute bargain. You see Anthony Gordon going from Everton to Newcastle for that kind of fee. Getting a World Cup winner – that’s outrageous.”

Outrageous indeed. This is certainly a transfer that has done wonders when it comes to changing the mood music surrounding the Anfield club.

Whilst we await the confirmed details, Romano has been spot on all the way with this deal and the Italian has also mooted a contract until 2028 for Mac Allister.

Should the figure be accurate then Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have made a superb start to the transfer window whilst also leaving plenty of cash in the coffers to continue to strengthen the squad – much needed as it is.

There were concerns among the fanbase that following on from a disappointing 2022/23 campaign, the action in the transfer market wouldn’t come to fruition. However, capturing the 24-year-old and with major reports of further interest in the likes of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram continuing to circulate, Reds can be confident that the required rebuild is underway.
