Don’t you just love it when James Pearce, Melissa Reddy, Paul Joyce and every journalist report a new potential signing out of the blue? Well me too!

Whilst the Conservatives have made it near impossible to trade with Europe because of Cameron’s fuck up in 2016, Liverpool have still found it possible to conduct incredible deals outside of England. Today’s prime example coming from Salzburg, Austria by the name of Takumi Minamino.

“An absolute steal” seems to be the appropriate term for the increasingly likely acquisition of the Japanese forward. Valued at over £25 million, LFC will be signing the player for a remarkable £7.25 million thanks to a release clause in the Japanese star’s contract. The biggest question that poses is how the exciting attacker will fit into Jurgen Klopp’s exuberant squad and what he can bring to Liverpool.

Minamino fits Jurgen Klopp’s bill in more ways than one; his versatility across attack gives Liverpool’s manager the option to play him anywhere in attack, his premature age of 24 years old gives him an abundance of time to develop and become one of Europe’s best forwards, even his tremendous work rate alone gives Klopp everything he looks for in a player.

His personality and the type of player were a few reasons that attracted Klopp to sign him, but his record for Salzburg shows how effective he is in attack whether that is scoring or creating goals. This season thus far has been extremely impressive from Minamino as the Japanese star has accumulated a total of 20 goal contributions in 22 games across the UEFA Champions League, Austrian Bundesliga and the Austrian cup with one of those 20 contributions coming in the UCL against his soon to be new club Liverpool as Salzburg almost overturned a 3-0 deficit to only narrowly lose 4-3.

Not only has the Japanese star had an impressive season in front of goal, his improvement as player has continued season by season. Last season he managed 14 goals and 10 assists in 45 games and the season prior to that he achieved a total of 21 goal contributions in 44 games. Takumi has clearly proven his threat in attack but the most impressive statistic about him is his willingness to learn and grow as a player hence his improvement in front of goal in the last three seasons. Undoubtedly as Jurgen Klopp likes to say it “we will have a lot of fun with this player”.

A low transfer fee alongside a club with tremendous history of producing top talent gives everyone associated with LFC a great deal of excitement that this exciting young forward can bolster the squad and give the Anfield faithful another player to sing about. Welcome to Liverpool Takumi Minamino.
