Liverpool continued their fine start to their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Burnley at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. It was the first time Anfield welcomed back a capacity crowd since the Champions league match against Atletico Madrid in March 2020.

It was a Joyous atmosphere at Anfield as you’ll Never Walk Alone was belted out. However it was the Clarets that started the brighter of the two sides when Guðmundsson, Wood and McNeil combined to create a good chance for Burnley with Mc Neil hitting the post fortunately for the reds it was deemed to be offside.

It was a less than convincing start from the reds with Mc Neil crossing the ball in from the left wing finding Wood to bring a save from Alisson.

Liverpool eventually got their act together when Naby Keita found Kostas Tsimikas who in turn provided a perfect cross for Diogo Jota to power home a brilliant header past a helpless Nick Pope for his second goal of the season.

Liverpool thought they had their second when Harvey Elliot found Mohammad Salah to smash the ball into the net however VAR ruled the goal to be offside. Before the break James Tarkowski came very close for Burnley with a header which just went narrowly wide of the post to leave the half time score Liverpool one Burnley Nil.

Burnley once again came out of the traps faster in the second half  Matthew Lowton managed to cross the ball for Ashley Barnes who finished excellently into the Liverpool net but his celebrations on front of a stunned Kop were cut short as the linesman’s flag was raised for offside.

From there once again Liverpool managed to create a few chances with Van Dikes header coming off Mané witch unfortunately deflected wide. Salah then danced and jigged his way through the Burnley defence to get his shot away only for Dwight Mc Neil to come to the Clarets rescue with an astonishing goal line clearance.

Sadio Mané brought yet another save from Nick pope before eventually sealing the game with an unstoppable finish in to the bottom right hand corner to give the reds a 2-0 victory and exactly what the home crowd wanted.
