The Atletico Madrid players won’t be waving their scarves in the air and clapping on the bikes in their training room this time! A hard-fought victory at the Wanda Metropolitano in the week means Liverpool’s morale should be high for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford.
But while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side haven’t been in the best form of late, they will be up for this one in a game where Liverpool will have to work hard for all three points.
The Reds have had plenty of time to prepare for this one which should mean few changes to the side that beat Atletico.
Here’s how we should line up:
What a performance from Alisson in Madrid! The Brazilian makes difficult saves look easy and has been consistent from the day he joined.
No changes to the back four in this one; the midweek game against Preston is where Jurgen Klopp can switch things around.
Fabinho showed the difference he makes when he came on in the second half in midweek, and he should start on Sunday. Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita remain in the side with Curtis Jones still not fully match fit and Thiago working his way back from injury.
Sadio Mane was unhappy when he was named amongst the substitutes at Old Trafford last time out and Klopp could go with the same front three that won the game there last season. Given Mane’s form this season though, I’m sticking with the Senegalese star!
Fans back in the stadium, Anthony Taylo being in charge and Cristiano Ronaldo playing means United will probably get a penalty at some point, but Liverpool should have more than enough to impose their dominance against a pragmatic side.
Score prediction: Manchester United 1 – 3 Liverpool
