During this week’s Transfer Insight with Dan Clubbe, he meets with esteemed Belgian football journalist Sacha Tavolieri @sachatavolieri). The main topic of discussion is the potential signing of 19-year-old Southampton footballer: Romeo Lavia.

The up-and-coming central-defensive midfielder has drawn interest from some top English sides like Chelsea, Arsenal, and of course, the Reds. As with Liverpool’s great relationship with Southampton over the years, they hope that can be a leading factor to get this transfer over the line. With that being the case, it may also be difficult because Lavia’s agent has a close relationship with Arsenal that has grown over the years as is discussed during the show.

Sacha said:

“Liverpool can be really quick because they don’t have a lot of things to do.

“They said they will make an offer, everyone is confident that it will be the case, if it’s not this week, it will be next week. The relationship between Liverpool and Southampton will make things more smooth.

“If we are talking about business and money, Arsenal is close. The fact is Liverpool is still in the race. [Liverpool] are not in an advantageous position… but Klopp is the key.”

As the days of the transfer window are ticking by, the Reds continue to assess their options and it would appear that the talented young Belgian is among the leading contenders to be the next to arrive at Anfield.

The player wants to get the deal done as soon as possible in order to put his entire focus on his new team and the upcoming season. Liverpool will hope they can beat other clubs to this because they aren’t as busy attempting to fix other areas with signings.

Described as ‘incredible’ by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola having left the Premier League champions for Southampton in search of minutes, Lavia would be a shrewd addition to the ranks who could offer cover and perhaps a long-term replacement for Fabinho, albeit more of a ball-playing option in the six role.
