Liverpool have arrived into the knockout stages as Jurgen Klopp guides the Reds to the San Siro for the second visit this campaign. Internazionale stand in the way this time, and they are currently 2nd place in the Serie A behind their Milan rivals.
A squad overflowing with depth is something we’ve rarely seen as Liverpool fans over the past few seasons, with an array of injuries normally coming up at the most inconvenient at times, but Klopp now has his strongest deck to choose from at a time in the season when it matters most.
Here’s how we should line up:
Alisson starts in goal after another dominant display, and that should form part of a back five that has just one change going into this game.
That is the inclusion of Ibrahima Konate who has been solid during the Champions League this season. Joel Matip comes out for a rest, though he should come straight back in at the weekend against Norwich City.
Fabinho’s form is too strong to take him out of the side at the moment. He anchors behind a midfield two that will be giving Klopp a selection headache. There’s over five combinations that we could go with on Wednesday, and while that’s testament to our new found squad depth through astute recruitment, it means tough decisions have to be made.
With the prospect of a more open game, Curtis Jones starts with hopes he can repeat his performance away at Porto. Henderson starts alongside him to offer stability, with Thiago used as a substitute after recently returning from injury.
The same front three from the weekend come in with Roberto Firmino supported by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, while one eye on the weekend is a good match for Diogo Jota to come in.
The Reds should be too strong for Inter on Wednesday night. As a European outfit, there is no worse draw than Liverpool. We should secure a comfortable lead to take back to Anfield that will hopefully see Luis Diaz included at some point.
