Liverpool make it seven in a row, after conducting a convincing performance, Curtis Jones’ brace in the first half put the Reds in a dominant position before Trent Alexander-Arnold whipped a sumptuous free-kick into the top corner to cap off a fantastic night in the Midlands.
The travelling Kop were in full voice on Monday evening, echoes of Si Señor rang around the King Power stadium, for almost the duration of the second half, to commend the outgoing Roberto Firmino. It was a performance the fans have been accustomed to in recent years, and it’s one they truly deserved after a troubled campaign on the road this season.
Kudos to Curtis Jones for his performances in recent weeks, the academy graduate has been in fine form since his return to the starting XI and his brace was a majestic one. The first came from a late surge into the penalty area, almost Steven Gerrard-esque to get on the end of Mo Salah’s perfectly weighted pass. The second was a touch of class, he received Salah’s pass from just outside the area and swivelled expertly to strike a sweetly timed volley into the top left corner.
Trent’s goal was also a touch of class, the dead ball specialist was at it again when he rifled the ball in the back of the net following Salah’s backheel from a training ground Free-kick routine.
Here’s how I rated those involved:
Alisson Becker 8 – Not his busiest evening, but looked extremely confident and commanding, the Brazilian has mastered the art of sweeper keeping and it is a pivotal part of Liverpool’s output, it also bails them out of trouble on several occasions.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 9 – sublime yet again, calm, cool and composed in possession, picked out some beautiful passes and scored a worldie. TAA also managed to keep Harvey Barnes quiet when out of possession which is no mean feat.
Konate 8 – Solid, Leicester didn’t pose much of a threat but no mistakes in his distribution are the best we could have asked for.
Van Dijk 7 – Similar to Konate, no mistakes and very commanding from the off.
Curtis Jones was OUTSTANDING! | Leicester 0-3 Liverpool | Player Ratings
Robertson 7 – A fairly quiet night down the left-hand side for Robbo, the Scot kept Maddison quiet which was vital.
Fabinho 7 – The Brazilian has been consistently good for a few months now after a rocky period, build-up play, interceptions, and tackles were spot on.
Henderson 7 – Didn’t stop running all night, a real captain’s performance.
Jones 9 MOTM – Fantastic. Took both of his goals expertly, the local lad will be ecstatic with his performances in recent weeks. The answer to Liverpool’s midfield woes?
Salah 8 – Another Premier League first for the Egyptian, a hat-trick of assists. When he’s not the goal scorer he’s the creator. I really am starting to run out of superlatives to describe him.
Gakpo 7 – The Dutchman will be disappointed not to get on the score sheet, but he did work hard for the team. One criticism I do have is he doesn’t really get into positions you’d expect from a striker but he’s still a work in progress.
Diaz 6 – More minutes in the bank, the Columbian isn’t back to his best, but he will find his feet soon enough.
Subs – Jota, Milner, Carvalho & Elliott – 6
