Liverpool 0-2 Everton | Things We Learned

Just Awful

To put it into perspective, I’m pretty sure I wasn’t alive the last time Everton won a Derby at Anfield so I’m really not enjoying this feeling. Not quite sure I can truly summarise how I’m feeling right now and I had to ask the group chat for some help on this. (Special mention to Leanne)

Regardless of the result, that was a terrible performance from Liverpool. Completely lacking intensity from start to finish and we didn’t look like creating any real clear cut opportunities for the entire 90 minutes.

I thought Trent Alexander-Arnold was the only bright spark in our team tonight. He got forward well and put in some decent crosses into the area but again no one was on the end of them.

The Jordan Henderson injury is the icing on the cake really isn’t it. Just when you think we can cope with our centre-back problems, another spanner is thrown in the works and we’re back to square one. Let’s just hope he’s not out for a long period of time but if it is a hamstring injury, it’s not likely to be anytime soon.

Nat Phillips replaces Jordan Henderson and I thought he did ok, he lacks in pace but he’s good in the air and that’s what we needed today. Ozan Kabak has been so hot and cold in his three appearances that I don’t know what to expect in a game from him now.

Anyone want to have the VAR discussion because I certainly don’t. Not sure what Trent can do in that situation, he is literally on the floor with his back to play, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is running towards him after taking the shot. What the hell?

The front three just didn’t have a sniff tonight either. Was expecting Mo Salah to have a go tonight considering his recent form, Sadio Mane has been off the boil for weeks now and Roberto Firmino is a shadow of the player he used to be and what we’re used to.

Who knows going forward what’s going to happen with this team and the season going forward but we need to buck our ideas and we need to do it quickly.

Sheffield United Up Next

Bottom of the league Sheffield United awaits on Sunday and I just don’t even know what is going to happen in that game. What centre-back partnership are we going for? Pep Lijnders and Jurgen Klopp? Sound.
