With the resumption of The Reds domestic season fast approaching, the players that are not on world cup duty travelled out to Dubai to take on Olympique Lyonnais at the Al-Maktoum Stadium but just how did everyone perform on Sunday afternoon?
Caoimhin Kelleher – 5/10 – The Republic of Ireland stopper managed to do ok, but he was a little at fault for Lyon’s first goal, on a positive note he did make a good save during his time on the field too.
James Milner – 6 Milner put in a decent performance on what was a difficult day overall for The Reds, but as ever he led by example driving the team forward.
Joel Matip – 5 The Cameroon man did ok as he managed to mop up a few mistakes, other than that he had very little to do as Liverpool dominated the first half.
Joe Gomez – 4 The Englishman got an hour under his belt, it wasn’t his best one, but it’s better to get errors out of the way now before the more critical action gets underway.
Andy Robertson – 5 The Scotsman gave 100 per cent effort, but sadly he was partly at fault for the Lyon equaliser before the break.
Stefan Bajcetic – 6 A fine committed performance from the young man, a real shining light in what was generally a tough day.
Thiago Alcantara – 5 The Spanish international opened the game up for Liverpool a few times picking out a decent couple of passes in the process.
Harvey Elliott – 5 He was doing alright, but perhaps a little worryingly he was subbed off half an hour into the game which may suggest an injury.
Fabio Carvalho – 7 Liverpool’s goal scorer on the day was in the right place at the right time to get The Reds off to an excellent start, whilst he also looked bright throughout.
Mohamed Salah – 5 It was an indifferent day for Liverpool’s Egyptian King as he set up the opening goal, putting Roberto Firmino through on goal to help Liverpool win a spot kick, from which he ultimately missed.
Roberto Firmino – 7 The Brazilian was a complete bundle of energy for long periods of the game forcing Lyon into a mistake for the opening goal and winning The Reds a penalty he was quite impressive.
Adrian – 5 managed to make a few excellent stops during his 45-minute spell on the field, however, he failed to keep out any of the spot kicks at the end of the game, that being said the French side’s penalties were first-class!
Naby Keita – 5 Nice to see the attacking midfielder back in action, it was a steady performance all things considered, and a fine penalty was taken too.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain -5 It was pleasing to see him get some decent well-needed game time, while he also stuck away a fine penalty.
Kostas Tsimikas – 4 A good penalty tucked away, decent run out for him.
Calvin Ramsay – 5 An impressive performance from the young man overall, it wasn’t easy to see him miss the penalty, but generally a lot more positives than negatives to take from his performance.
Nathaniel Phillips – 4 He had a little bit of an off day today, but in the bigger picture, it’s fitness that counts at this time.
Ben Doak – 7 The fearless teen took on his opponents with enthusiasm and determination, as he provided a great spark of light and positivity in what was a rather dull day for Liverpool.
Jake Cain, Bobby Clark, Dominic Corness, Layton Stewart, Luke Chambers, Melkamu Frauendorf There were valuable minutes given to each of these young men, in what was a really steep learning curve from which they will definitely get better and come back stronger next time.
