Liverpool beat Aston Villa by two goals to one thanks to a Trent Alexander-Arnold winner!

Huge Win

A big win for Liverpool today against an Aston Villa side who have performed very well this season and in recent games but the Reds were able to get past them with a last-minute winner.

A good start to the game for Liverpool with plenty of opportunities for us to take the lead but we just weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. I liked the forward line of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Diogo Jota, and the three of them looked lively and played well, they closed down the ball quickly and put the Villa backline under pressure at times.

Gutted for Firmino following his disallowed goal after another terrible VAR decision, it’s a conversation that has been discussed numerous times and one that will never stop until something dramatically changes with the technology but I think we can collectively agree that it doesn’t always work.

That result now puts us in fourth place for the time being depending on the Chelsea result later on today but it will also give us a lot of confidence heading into a big week with the second leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday night. It’s also nice to finally have a win at Anfield in 2021 and to not have that hanging over us going into the remaining home fixtures.

Yes, Trent!

I mentioned him separately after the Arsenal game and he deserves it again today because he was great. He’s had to put up with a lot of stick this week and following on from the England controversy he has been nothing but mature about it all and thoroughly deserves that goal today.

He is undoubtedly one of the most talented youngsters and right-backs in football right now and anyone who questions his ability both in defence and attack clearly doesn’t understand the game. He has everything Jurgen Klopp could possible want in a player and he has used this time well to also mature as a person.

Real Madrid Next

Like I said above, it’s a big week for Liverpool. 3-1 down against a top Real Madrid isn’t the best but we’ve been in the position before and I have no doubt we will give 100% in Wednesday nights game and will put up a fight. What eleven would you start?
