Liverpool have progressed to the quarter finals of the FA Cup for the first time under Jurgen Klopp thanks to two goals from Taki Minamino. Klopp made a number of changes from the League Cup final win on Sunday but was able to implement a mix of experience, youth and fringe players.
Norwich created a few chances but nothing that worried Liverpool until they got one late in the second half.
The game didn’t really change and Liverpool were able to see out the win and secure their name in the hat for the next round!
This was just the type of game that leads to an ok rating from the goalie. His distribution was sound, he made a good save from Rowe to stop Norwich from levelling and had no chance of stopping the goal.
He put in an excellent Milner performance tonight, he was providing support aplenty in the attacking third as well as not giving the Norwich attack a sniff whenever the ball went down his side.
He’s just a monster. His pace and strength give forwards zero hope and he reads the game like a veteran. The fact that he’s only 22 and he’s performing at these levels is astonishing and should frighten anyone who tries to get past him.
For the most part he was superb, he was sweeping up any threats with consummate ease as well as looking to be sharp and precise with his passing. He should be closing down the goalscorer a lot more aggressively than he did though.
The ball for the opening goal is nothing short of brilliant as he shows that he’s more than capable to play in any sort of situation for the reds. He constantly looks to beat a winger like Sadio or Diaz and will always try to cross the ball into dangerous positions.
Efficient, effective and intelligent. That’s all you need to say about this man and his performance. He never wasted a pass and would always look to go for the smart option that will lead to the best outcome for the team. He also swept up any loose ball in midfield to stop Norwich building up any confidence in the first half. The drop off in the performance was noticeable when he came off.
Jones would pop up all over the park tonight and look to create and cause chaos for Norwich as no one knew when or how to pick him up. He was inches away from scoring a screamer and he was missed in the second half. Hopefully he’s all good and is ready to push on as an option for the rest of the season.
How his blocked shot wasn’t given as a pen is beyond me as Jota is denied a goal due to the arm of a Norwich defender. He also should’ve taken his chance from the header at the back post. Overall, not Jota’s best game but he looked bright in spells and this game will give him valuable minutes.
That first 65 minutes was just incredible. The match winner tonight with a ruthless first and a divine second as he shows that he’s a valuable asset for this squad. His first touch, movement and dribbling was simply impossible to stop tonight from a Norwich perspective.
He wasn’t able to get into the game as much as he’s been able to in previous matches this season but he provided a key assist in a pivotal moment in the game for Taki’s first. It just feels very Divock in truth.
Everything he does is with the intention of scoring goals. His passing is sharp and forward, his movement is designed to find space, his crossing was near perfect as he should’ve had at least one assist. He’s a phenomenon and we’ve got to appreciate and love what will be a fascinating career.
The drop-off of the performance was noticeable when Henderson came off. This isn’t necessarily Morton’s fault but he was unable to dictate the game in the same manner and that just lost us control and gave Norwich an opportunity to cause us more problems. He’s still a young player though and will certainly develop from experiences like this.
