The Resounding Reds rotate again

A gruelling afternoon after a Champions League classic was to be expected, especially after the lineups were submitted including 3 changes to our ever reliable back 4. The atmosphere just a little bit more tense, the players just being a little more leggy, Crystal Palace were up and ready to deal a bloody nose after the Spurs massacre from a week prior.

After the first 120 seconds, the stress was an inevitability after Ali tracked back and pushed what should/ve been a certain goal, onto the post. Palace were countering with intent with Zaha and Benteke looking like they were on a mission to give the mighty Anfield an unpleasant afternoon.

But as these reds tend to do, they grew into the game, Henderson started to do his usual 8 work and link up with Milly and Salah with an elegance that can only be created by the captain and top goalscorer. The threats at set piece emerge again with not one, not even two but THREE goals coming from them in different and equally spectacular ways (although maybe Keita’s was a touch more spectacular). Klopp rotates out Matip, Robbo and Trent (intentionally or not) and we still produce the same scoreline as the previous week. The squad depth exists at this football club, we’ve just got to believe that it does.

Sadio and Salah: Liverpool’s Striking Centurions

Mane hitting his 100th goal for the Reds today, especially in its manner and timing, produced another stat and another memory that will be etched into lfchistory.net (and Liverpool folklore) for all time.

Another record by another wonderfully gifted footballer in this special era that we live in. And there’s more to come, Mane will get 100 Premier League goals soon and Salah will get his 100th Premier League goal for Liverpool soon.

These two African wingers cause chaos on a weekly basis, they score at rates that most clubs would dream for and they most importantly, work as hard as anyone could for the team that they play in. In a tight and tetchy game akin to several we saw in the dreaded 6 game run of last season, we had our two goal scorers score yet again in key moments that can define a season.

Number 20?

The beginning of this season has shown the grit, passion, determination, quality and a touch of luck arrive back in our game after having a holiday of 12 months. The manager is picking teams that are good enough to beat each opposition and the players are doing enough in each game to get each win.

They save their energy for when it’s required while the resoluteness and the fortitude to be winners still remains on show. The stars show why they’re the best on the planet with Alisson being dominant, Virg maintaining order and Salah and Mane scoring with ruthlessness and precision.

In addition to the work of our boys, we see Man City all collectively losing their minds with Pep and the fans going at each other and their players delivering suit to the pleas of their manager with a 0-0 draw with 1 shot on target and an overturned red card and penalty. The Etihad outfit aren’t done or out of the title race just yet and they could very easily turn their form around and go on an 18 game winning run and storm their way to the Premier League, BUT.. despite spending £100m on England superstar Jack Grealish, it’s not all rosy at that football club. Maybe a lesson to not take spending as the be all and end all of success and happiness?

We see Man United and Chelsea play football matches against West Ham and Tottenham respectively. They might win and continue to march on with Ronaldo and Lukaku at the front, they might not and we have an enjoyable Sunday afternoon. There will be tougher challenges in the coming weeks and months with more FSG or Mane or Origi conversations. Whatever may be in the future, we should be able to see that the Merseyside Reds might not be so bad after all.
